with an awe-struck look on his face.
Pointing emphatically at his lower jaw that was jutting out for attention,
he exclaimed, " My tooth is loose, FINALLY!"
Ever since then, I have been watching him with a new awareness of the fact that he is really growning up. I shouldn't be surprised---he has learned to read this winter, he is very advanced in his math skills, and is always a big help around the house and with Ian. But somehow, when he starts losing those precious baby teeth, it sinks in for real.
He's a big boy now.

Congratulations big boy !!! In France, children put the loosing teeth under their pillow, and the "petite souris" (little mouse) come during the night, take the teeth and let a little present or a coin...(i.e. a little money, is this the correct word ?...)
I remember my oldest daughter being beyond desperate to lose her first tooth before the school year finished in her first year of school. Her teacher gave them a special little box when they lost their first tooth and she didn't want to miss out, knowing that she would be in a new school the next year!
They really do grow up oh so fast don't they.
