White on White

Mr. Wonderful is building me some beautiful cabinets.

Of course, they are not done yet,

like the rest of our house.

We are enjoying each little bit

that gets finished.

He is so good to me!!

Details

When our "old" vintage oven

(bought at a yard sale 3 years ago for $25!)

started taking 45 minutes to heat up,

we looked online for replacement parts.

To fix the burners and the oven was going to be over $200.

After a quick scan of the classifieds,

we headed to the city to buy this uptown Frigidaire, circa 1952.

For $150, I now have double ovens, a clock that works,

and even a light that clicks on to say "Broil" or "Bake".

(You know my record with the Broil function!)

Everything works, except the timer.

Merry Christmas to me!

Something New

Well, it was new in 1952!

Finding Gray

At last count, there are 9 quarts of gray-ish paint in my house.

I learned from my mother to never trust a paint chip---

bring it home and try it out, preferably on different walls of the room

and live with it through all the changes in light during the day,

and the artificial light at night.

It's the only way to know. I was in pursuit of Gray----you know, Basic Gray.

But the paint store doesn't carry Basic Gray----

there's Timeless Gray (very near baby blue on my walls!)

and Weathered Tin (blue, again, with almost a purplish tint to it!)

and Fired Steel (just too much blue in it!)

So then we swung over to some shady greens----

Jogging Path and Stone Lion were good ones for a room that suppose to be green!

Here's what I finally found, after colormatching a piece of sheetrock!!!!!

"Cittified" (which is something I'd rather not be!)

It's gray, finally.

Valentine's Day Surprise!

This is one of my gifts to my sweetie-pie----

while he was gone out of town,

I cleaned and painted the *new* floor

so we could "move in".

We are still waiting for the drywall to be finished

and painted (more on the *gray* later!!)

before the messes are mostly over,

but I just couldn't wait any more.

The boys are all going crazy with the extra space---

even Ian was crawling around this morning in a zig-zag----

he couldn't decide which way to go first!

Happy Valentine's Day!

House Progress

We are finishing up the sheetrocking----

and I am dabbing paint "swatches" around.....

decisions must be made soon!

I am thinking of a light gray for the walls,

dove white on the trim,

with sage, khaki and deep red accents.

More Demolition

This is a "small" demo project.....

the wall behind Nathan between the kitchen

and dining room is coming out!

With everyone getting in on the action!

Starting the New Year with a....Crash?

This is what my living room looked like this Christmas:It hasn't changed at all since the remodel began, except for maybe getting more crowded since we decided to move our dining table in there so we wouldn't freeze while we eat.

The interior wall has been waiting to come down....

waiting and waiting and waiting.

I, on the other hand, have been very patient.

This is my dining/living room last night.

The plastic is up to help keep the dust out and the heat in.

thanks to Dad and Mr. Wonderful.


Bye, wall, it's been nice knowing you.
But it's so much bigger in here with you gone!!

Painted!!

A gloomy day last week found us finally masking off the windows (a job I strangely enjoy---it reminds me of wrapping presents!!) after Mr. Wonderful spent many hours on the siding and the upper gable shingles and brackets. (the first picture is of the least visible side of our house---facing east. But doesn't it look nice anyway? I love the little gable and the tucked-under-the-eave bumpout!)

Today, I am finally feeling up to getting outside, raking leaves, and taking pictures of the house, and getting it all uploaded.

Three in One---

Watch this----I'll update on three topics in one post!! These fingerless gloves are for my Mr. Wonderful---

in his line of work he can't wear normal gloves---

the details demand a good grip.

Knit in merino wool, with my first cables.

They are a success---he's wearing them!!


And football huddle on Sunday afternoon, time with the boys,
teaching character through the winning and the losing
(which nearly always results in tears!!)

Update on the Craftsman Bungalow

My Mr. Wonderful (the Craftsman around here)

has been working tirelessly on our addition.

The roof is on (whew!) and the windows are in.

Next up is trim and siding as the weather permits. This is the front porch, cozy and begging for a bench and fall wreath.

Oh, wait, I'm supposed to wait until the door's on

before I can hang a wreath on it!

Where the two windows are used to be the front door---now the dining room.

From inside it's really shocking how much light it lets in,

and how bright and lovely our yard looks from the table.

Demolition

Last winter in the last trimester of my pregancy, I spent a week doing this stencil

around the ceiling of our living room. It's going "bye-bye" now.

Change is good and sad at the same time.

Bathroom Remodel

Just when I had the bathroom cleaned, look what happened!!

Demo crew, comin' through!!

Riggging up a shower for the night---until tomorrow when it's all

coming out!!!
